ワークショップ｜Workshops
《奇数ソックスとノード》では、会期中に参加アーティストによる2つのワークショップを実施した。展示を見るだけでなく、参加者自身が身近な環境や物を観察し、触れ、組み替え、制作するプロセスを通して、日常のなかに潜在する別の関係や見方を発見する機会として構成された。
Portland Palissy Session（2024年4月21日）は、The Portland Inn ProjectのRebecca DaviesとAnna Francisによって行われた。参加者はアートギャラリーミヤウチ周辺を歩き、植物や無脊椎動物など地域の生態系を観察。植物のサンプルを集めたりスケッチしたりした後、それらをもとに粘土で形をつくり、葉を押し付けるなどしながら共同のプレートを制作した。陶芸家・博物学者としても知られるBernard Palissyの仕事に着想を得ながら、ギャラリー周辺の自然環境を参加者自身の観察と制作によって記録する、一種の「eco-report」をつくる試みでもあった。
The Everyday Mindfulness（2024年6月14日）は、Wang RuobingとSaiによって行われた。参加者は、鉛筆、ペン、歯ブラシ、紙、ヘアピンなど普段使っているものや、会場へ来る途中で拾ったものなど、身近な既製品を持ち寄り、それらを組み直す、描く、並べ替えるといった行為を通して、新たな「読み方」を探った。大量生産された日用品を改めて注意深く見ることで、それらが自分を取り巻く環境のなかでどのような位置を占め、どのようにそこへ存在しているのかを意識し、アートを通して身近な物との関係を捉え直すことを試みた。
異なる方法をとる2つのワークショップに共通していたのは、すでに身の回りに存在している環境や物を固定されたものとして受け取るのではなく、注意を向け、別の角度から読み直し、手を加えることで、新たな関係や意味が立ち上がる可能性を参加者と共有することだった。展示空間で作品や環境の関係を組み替えていく《奇数ソックスとノード》のあり方を、参加者自身の観察や身体的な経験へと別のかたちで開いていく機会となった。

1. Portland Palissy Session

The Portland Palissy Session, held at Art Gallery Miyauchi , engaged participants in a hands-on activity to explore and document the local biodiversity. Facilitated by Rebecca Davies and Anna Francis, the session began with a brief introduction and a nature walk focusing on plant species and invertebrates around the gallery. Participants collected plant samples and made sketches, then returned to create clay representations of their findings. Inspired by Bernard Palissy’s work, the clay activity included pressing leaves into the clay and forming a collaborative plaque. The session aimed to create an eco-report of the neighbourhood, fostering a deeper understanding of local ecology.
2. The Everyday Mindfulness

The workshop invites the participants to use the everyday ready-made objects to create a fresh interpretation with art. The participants are encouraged to bring along some everyday objects that they often use, or things they pick up on the way to attend the workshop. The objects can be pencils, pens, tooth brushes, paper, hair pins etc. Minimal 10 items from each participant.
The artists will lead them to pay attention to these objects brought by them and guide them to create new ways of “reading” through reassembling, drawing and reorganizing. The workshop intends to pay attention to the things produced by mass production, raise awareness of the position of these objects in one’s environment and refresh curiosity in how things come to be there and how we might process them through art making.
